When I saw the ad and the published specs for this item, I knew that they could not be accurate. No 8" midrange does 106db at 1w/1m. or provides even 500w RMS. Basically, I looked at the rest of the details of the driver and concluded that its spl would be around 96-98 dB and its power handling 100-200w RMS. I compared it to an 8 ohm eminence 8" that I was using that is rated at 95dB. This unit puts out about 5-6DB more sound than the 8 ohm eminence. It draws double the power to do it. This means its SPL is around 97 to 98 DB which is what I expected.The 10 decibel down point was probably correctly quoted at around 95 hz on the bottom. It seems to have about 2-3 mm of xmax. So it's definitely a midrange/ high bass. This is what I was after. I cross it over on the bottom with 450 uf 100v. The cone is light and responsive.The box says 1000w max ... it also says dual 4 ohm impedance. But there's only one voice coil per speaker. This suggests heavily that the power rating is peak power for 2 drivers as these drivers are often sold in pairs. This suggests per driver power rating of 250w RMSThe adverts show both ceramic magnets and neo magnets. This item is heavy and has a ceramic magnet.the speaker frame is sturdy cast aluminum and is probably part of the reason for somewhat elevated power rating. The 106 dB rating might be somewhere close to what you would get with 2.83v driven parallel into both drivers. (i.e. 2 ohm load) This is something of a trick because 2.83v efficiency rating is intended for single 8 ohm drivers.so .. ok .. much better guess at specs:200w RMS/driver3 mm xmax98 dB SPL 1W/1m95hz - 8 khz33oz magnetso, basically, these drivers are great midrange/high bass drivers, completely legit. even though their listed specs appear unrealisticyou just need to know what you are getting and how they are rating them.
